There's nothing to be anxious about when taking the road test. Either your pass or fail, neither is the end of the world. He should probably go for some counselling to help him with his anxiety if it's that bad.Practicing a route or set of routes will not help him if the examiner makes an alteration to the route, which they typically do now.
It will make it worse for him.If he is confident in his ability to perform the basic driving skills as set out in the Driver's Handbook, and in his ability to follow direction then he should have next to no issue in passing. Not sure what the routes are but best advice is to just go into it with extra caution. If someone is on the crosswalk make sure they are fully off before even moving the vehicle.
No matter how mad the person gets behind you. Blinkers, Don't go over the limit, etc.Its pretty easy to pass if he just follows the general rules of the road. I didn't have to parallel park on mine but did have to back into a spot. I messed up the first time backing into the spot and corrected myself and the instructor didn't care at all. Good luck.
You were lied to, hand over hand is fine but most people screw their corners up and end up holding the wheel with one hand for some time which I guarantee will give you demerits. Same with not checking blind spots, it's easy points lost that quickly add up. I'm not sure if parallel parking is tested anymore, it probably isn't, but in Halifax it's basically a requirement for parking anywhere downtown. Just practice doing it as you'll benefit greatly from not obstructing traffic when you need to and it'll help you cement the dimensions of the vehicle in your mind and reinforce confidence.
